2023 Season

Social Bowling

Like last year, the Club runs an afternoon of bowling every week (usually a Thursday) when people can come along to meet and play with other club members. It does not matter whether you are a novice or a more experienced player, everyone is welcome.

In addition to the weekly meetings, the Club will be organising several competitions during the season. They are usually held on a Saturday or Sunday and are open to all members of the club.  More details nearer the time.

Wilbraham Cup

Wilbraham Cup being presented to Sally McConnell

Shortly before George Wilbraham left Delamere House around 1930 the Wilbraham family’s long serving cook and house keeper a Mrs McClewley retired.  She was offered a gift of a bungalow for life.  A bungalow then known as “The Sheilings” now known as “Bowling Green Cottage” was built for her on land owned by the Wilbraham family on Norley Road.

The building of this bungalow left an odd piece of adjacent land too large for the old and now widowed house keeper to use as a garden.  As a result this land was leased to the village through Cuddington Parish Council.  It was stipulated that this land was to be used as an amenity for the common good.  It was decided that a village bowling green would be a suitable use and in line with the spirit of the Wilbraham family's gift to the village.

On hearing of this outcome George Wilbraham was in full agreement and donated a trophy “The Wilbraham Cup” to the club which is still competed for every year by the members to this day.

This years competition for the Wilbraham Cup was held on June 10th and the winner was Sally McConnell of Delamere Park who became only the second lady in the long history of the competition to win the trophy.

Ian Smith the Club Chairman said it is wonderful that the Wilbraham Cup bowling competition, which is entwined with so much village history, is still attracting great interest in the village and there is no reason why it should not do so for many years to come with new members coming to the club every year.

Hazel Watts, the Ladies Captain, said that it is wonderful that a lady had won the trophy and an inspiration to the lady members of the club.

2022 Season

After all of the problems caused by Covid 19 over the last two years, its looks as though life is returning  to something like it used to be. There is a full season of league bowling as well as our own programme of social bowling and competitions.  We are also planning an open weekend in May, when people can come along and try bowling for free under the guidance of club members.

The new season started on 28th March and carries on until late September.

The Chester League's Champion of Champions

The Chester League's Champion of Champions was held at Cuddington BC on Sunday 4th September. Twenty five clubs each sent their Averages Champion to play in a knockout competition.

Supporters, club members and competitors enjoyed a great days Bowling with many highly competitive games. culminating in the final between Jay Salisbury from Farndon and Christian Reid from Aston.  Both players play for the Welsh national team and were under 25.  They treated us to some spectacular bowls appreciated and applauded by the crowd .

The eventual victor in a 21-20 result was Christian Reid.  Congratulations to him and to all the bowlers on the day.  Christian is pictured below being presented with the trophy by Chester League President Leslie Williams.

Open Day

Come along and have a go at bowling.  We are holding an open day at our green on Norley Road on Sunday, 29th May.  It starts at 11.00am and lasts all day.  All ages welcome.  This is your chance to have a go at bowling with the help and guidance of members from the Cuddington Bowling Club.  Bring the children; there will be an area set aside for them to try out their own skills.  Refreshments available all day.  Ladies, no high heels please.

A great success which gave a lot of people the opportunity to try out bowling for the first time.  Thanks to Ian Smith for organising the event and special thanks to the club members who helped to look after the visitors and provide refreshments all day.
