History and Development of the Club

The home of crown green bowling in Cuddington and Sandiway

Cuddington Bowling Club was founded in 1932 on a piece of ground leased to the village by the Wilbraham Estate. The Wilbraham family were the occupants of Delamere House which stood on the site of the nearby Delamere Park housing development. George Wilbraham presented a silver cup to the club that is still keenly contested annually by the club members and is considered the club’s most prestigious trophy.

The club evolved and now has around sixty members with teams that play in the local leagues in both the afternoon and evening divisions. Most of these teams are mixed with both gentlemen and lady members but last season we established a ladies' team which plays in the Mid-Cheshire Ladies' league(on a Monday or Tuesday evening). In addition, there are regular club competitions for members, which are usually played at the weekends. The season extends from early April to mid September. The standard of the bowling ranges from beginner level to the more competitive. Beginners are always welcome and experienced club members are very happy to help beginners get started with advice on the game and on the necessary equipment. The equipment is actually nothing more than a pair of bowls (or woods) of the correct type and a pair of suitable shoes. The Club has some spare bowls that new members can borrow while they look for something of their own.

So why not consider taking up bowling, a game for all ages. You can contact the club by email (see the “Contact Us” section of this website). We will be happy to supply further information or simply answer your questions.
