A message from Steve Chivers, the outgoing Chairman of our Youth Club:
"After reopening the club five years ago, it has steadily grown to the point where we were getting over 70 young people on a Friday evening.
Although this shows just how much The Youth Club is needed, these kinds of numbers also bring additional challenges in running sessions and making sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
Unfortunately, we currently don’t have enough staff and volunteers available to run our Friday sessions safely, particularly with the number of young people attending. We’ve therefore taken the difficult decision to temporarily pause sessions while we recruit the additional staff and volunteers needed to reopen safely.
We’re actively looking for people to join the team, so if you’re interested in getting involved and helping us welcome young people back, please get in touch at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
In the meantime, we’re also taking the opportunity to improve some of the club’s organisational arrangements, including working towards becoming a charity in our own right to help support its long-term future.
As the club moves into this next chapter, I’ve decided to step down as Chair. Fortunately, we have people involved with a great deal of experience, and I felt it was the right time to pass the responsibility of taking the club forward to them.
I’ll still be involved and fully support those taking the club forward.
We’re looking forward to welcoming young people back as soon as we can and will update you as plans develop."
