Cuddington and Sandiway Gala

2019 Gala Day:

The 2019 Gala Day festivities took place, in rather damp conditions, on Saturday 8th June 2019 and the theme this year has been ‘Storybook Animals’.

2019 Scarecrow Competition:

We again held our Scarecrow competition this year.  A fun activity to do with the kids, the scarecrows attract a lot of attention with many people following the Scarecrow Trail round the village - this Trail has been published in the "Newsroom" on this website.

If you would like to see some of the entries (and all of the winners), you can PRESS HERE to get some idea of the creativity which is alive and well in the village.

Our 2019 Citizenship Awards:

Each year we present two Citizenship shields at the Gala:
One is for an adult who has ‘demonstrated outstanding commitment to, support of and/or delivery of a service to the Cuddington and Sandiway community’, and
the other is a junior award for a young person under 18 who has done ‘something really special’.

These accolades are awarded by you, the residents of our village.  The winners of these prestigious awards this year are:

Citizenship Award   - Gerry and Margaret Card

Margaret and Gerry are the true definition of community volunteers. They work day in, and day out, to ensure that the Village Hall and Playing Fields are maintained to the highest standard. They have been volunteers for 3 decades and Margaret is the current chairman of the Playing Fields Association. They were both members of a group of people who refused to give up on the idea of getting the village a new hall, a determination which paid off and which we all benefit from today. They have been actively involved in putting on events such as Rural Arts Performances and the monthly Tea and Cake afternoons. They have now decided to retire and deserve our thanks for all that they have done for the village.

     Junior Citizenship   - Tilly Rees

Tilly had been learning about the environment at school and with her class she had discussed ways of making our village a better place. When she later went on a dog walk to the quarry she was shocked at the amount of litter there so one weekend she took it upon herself to collect all the rubbish she could find there. Tilly and her dad filled 2 bin bags with rubbish.
